SkarsBuzz: December 30–January 5, 2014 (Alexander Skarsgard newsletter)

SkarsBuzz 123013-010514What is SkarsBuzz? It is a weekly roundup of the news involving Alexander Skarsgård in movies, TV, magazines, appearances, etc. We’ll still post the big news as it happens, but will also include some of the other noteworthy things that have been happening that you may not have heard about yet.

We know a lot of this information is repeated week to week, so just look for **NEW** to see what is the latest info. We have a gallery below, so even if you don’t want to read all of the news, we hope you at least check out the pretty pictures! The gallery includes new photos from the week that were found on the internet, that we created, and from fans.

What’s new this week…

**NEW**As we did last year, we conducted polls on our Facebook page for YOUR favorite Alex moments from 2013. This week we concluded our polls and asked for your favorite  PHOTO OF THE YEAR  and SURPRISE CHARACTER. Previously we asked you your favorite Alex magazine cover, Alex movie from 2013, and FAVORITE MOVIE CHARACTER (Derek Hull in Disconnect, Lincoln in What Maisie Knew or Benji in The East), ALEX RED CARPET LOOK of 2013 and PHOTO SHOOT/PHOTOCALL of 2013. You can check out all of last year’s winners here. We tallied the results – we received over 5,200 votes on our Facebook page – and announced the winners. Rather than list them all again here, you can look at Jenna’s awesome winners photo in the gallery below and see our post on the winners here.

**NEW** One of Alex’s fans sent us a poem that she wrote for inspiration for Walking With the Wounded. We finally got it put into photo document and would love to share it with you all. Many thanks to Angie A. that wrote the poem!!

*NEW** TVLine announced that Luke Grimes who played the vampire James has left the show. When reached for comment, an HBO spokesperson confirmed Grimes’ exit, saying, “The role of James is being recast due to the creative direction of the character.” Grimes’ rep declined to comment, but a source close to the Brothers & Sisters alum tells TVLine that the actor asked to be let out of his contract after he learned what producers had in store for James in Season 7. “He initially joined the show because he wanted to work with [his Forever co-star] Deborah Ann Woll,” says the insider. “But when he started reading the scripts for Season 7, he was disappointed to learn that they were going in a completely different direction with James.” Grimes recently joined the Fifty Shades of Grey movie as Christian Grey’s brother.

**NEW** Deborah Ann Woll has tweeted that they will start filming True Blood season 7 on Monday, January 6, 2014. The new season will air [most likely] in June 2014 on HBO.

**SPOILERS** Casting news: “Episode 7.2 ‘(title:TBA)’
Writer: Brian Buckner, Director: Lee Rose. To film around mid-january 2014.
Woman AKA Sylvie: 20s, beautiful, French. Must be French and speak French fluently. Love interest to Eric (Alexander Skarsgard) Episode 2 Arc, on the final season of True Blood. This role requires full frontal nudity excluding genitalia.”

Stephen Moyer will be directing the Season 7 premiere of True Blood. On September 3rd, HBO announced that next season, season seven, will be True Blood‘s last.

We have all of our screen caps from each episode and videos of the Eric scenes. There were only 10 episodes this season. To access season 6 (and all of the past seasons) click here.

If you saw the season finale, you know it didn’t end so well for Alex’s character Eric Northman. You can read the roundup of interviews with TB showrunner Brian Buckner here for more details.

**NEW** We replaced the video for 4.01 ‘She’s Not There’ with a better quality one. (See the collage in the gallery below.) There are lots of good Eric moments in this one: Sookie returns to Bon Temps after being gone a year. (Eric senses her return and it wakens him.) He visits her at her home: “I knew you were not dead… I never lost hope…But understand this—everyone that claims to love you: your friends, your brother, even Bill Compton, they all gave up on you. But. I. Never. Did.” He also records a PSA on behalf of vampires and visits Sookie in her bedroom. Definitely worth a rewatch!

Disconnect will be released in Italy on January 9, 2014. The movie has a new Italian Facebook page.

The Blu-ray/DVD for Disconnect was released in the US on September 17. Australian fans had their own DVD release from Madman Entertainment on October 16th. You can see the screen caps for the movie here.

**NEW** What Maisie Knew was on Cody Villafana’s list of the Top 10 Movies of 2013. In the 9th spot is the little seen or heard of indie “What Maisie Knew.” Adapted from a 100 year old novel, the film tells the story of a bitter separation and nasty custody battle through the eyes of a 6-year-old girl. While the ensemble cast is great, the film is carried by the performances and the chemistry between Alexander Skarsgard and newcomer Onata Aprile. As sweet as it is heartbreaking, the looks at parental arguments and separations as well as the constructions of extended families make “What Maisie Knew” one of the timelier films of 2013. [source]

What Maisie Knew is on Netflix Instant. It also has these release dates for:

Brazil 10 January 2014
Hungary February 2014

The Blu-ray/DVD was released August 13th for Alex’s 2nd movie this year, What Maisie Knew.

**NEW** Last week we told you that the LA Times had a poll for the most underappreciated movie of 2013 and included The East as one of the choices. It won! We’re not sure if they are implying that it won because Alexander Skarsgard fans rallied to vote for it, but they chose it on the ballot and it was a fantastic movie!

LA Times:

It grossed just $2.2 million at the U.S. box office, but “The East,” the eco-thriller directed by Zal Batmanglij and starring Alexander Skarsgård and Brit Marling, topped The Times’ fourth-annual poll for most underappreciated movie of the year, beating out Ron Howard‘s “Rush,” which garnered the second-most votes.

Coming into this weekend, “Rush” was easily in first place. But a push for votes from Skarsgård fan sites such as this one launched “The East” into the top spot.

The film follows an undercover corporate spy (Marling) who infiltrates a radical eco-terrorist group run by a charismatic leader (Skarsgård) as they embark on a series of “jams” to try to take down corporate interests. Though upon its spring art-house release the film drew strong plaudits for its sense of suspense and complex political undertones, it failed to catch on with audiences. [source]

According to @TheEastMovie, #TheEast has been nominated for the Joe Barber Award by the #Washington DC Area Film Critics Association in the ‘Best Portrayal’ category.

The East will hit theatres in Japan on January 31, 2014. [source]

The Blu-ray/DVD were released on September 17th in the US for Alex’s 3rd movie this year, The East.

We’ve been telling you for months that there is still talk about Alex taking the lead role in the film Tarzan, although this movie has not been green lit. Says Skarsgard management: ‘the role is his if it is green lit.’ There was new buzz about it lastweek with articles from Variety saying thatSamuel L. Jackson is in talks to co-star in it (again) and an article from Up&Comers that has Margot Robbie as a frontrunner to play Tarzan’s Jane.

Also…in the works…We heard that Alex may be in the new movie ‘Diary of a Teenage Girl’ with Kristin Wiig. The movie is starting to shoot next month in San Francisco. We asked Skarsgård management about it and they said they are still working on it, but it’s not official yet. They are hoping that it works out. We’ll let you know more if we find out anything. Stay tuned…

Alex will be playing ‘Jonas’ Father’ in the new film The Giver. He finished filming his scenes for the movie in Cape Town, South Africa. The film already has a release date of August 15, 2014. You can follow them on Twitter @thegivermovie and like their Facebook page. Nikki Silver tweeted that the last official day [of shooting] was on December 14, 2013.

Sorry folks, we don’t have any news on the film Hidden. According to IMDb, it’s still marked as “post production”. We’ll pass along any news when we hear it.

**NEW** HELLO! Canada Magazine (dated January 13, 2014) featured a story on Prince Harry and Walking With the Wounded. Alex is mentioned and in the group photo. (See the gallery below for the digital pages.)

You can catch up on past Alex articles here.

Provocations**NEW** The Express Tribune posted their 2013 retrospective on “The Best of Everything Beautiful from around the Globe”. Calvin Klein’s Provocations was chosen as the best fashion film:

Calvin Klein enforces its image as a modern and sophisticated brand through their fashion film Provocations, starring True Blood’s Alexander Skarsgård and Suvi Koponen. The ten minute film follows a series of thematic and suspenseful, yet visually stunning, scenes setting the tone for CK’s Spring/Summer 2013. [see photo at right]

Alex will be the face of a Calvin Klein ad campaign for the 3rd time. Previously, he has been the face of the campaign for their men’s fragrance Encounter and then for CK Jeans, Calvin Klein, and Calvin Klein Collection. Now he is the face of their campaign for Encounter Fresh. The men’s fragrance has been sold overseas, but has yet to debut in the US.

**NEW** We replaced the video for Leende Guldbruna Ögon . If you’ve never seen it, it is a MUST! Alex plays a danceband singer. His role was ‘Boogey Knights Sångare’ in this 3-part Swedish TV series. Yes, that’s Alex singing! Our video has his parts in episodes 2 & 3 (sadly, that is all that he was in it.) It aired in 2007. We have a photo collage in the gallery below.

Alexander Skarsgard was photographed to help show his support for the Red Card to Child Labour campaign. (See in the gallery below.) While Alexander Skarsgard is in Cape Town, South Africa, filming his new movie, The Giver, he took time to pose for a photo for the International Labour Organization (ILO) Dept of Communications.
