The “Battle of the Fang” rages on between Team Eric and Team Bill; however, Alexander Skarsgard and Stephen Moyer have reason to be proud!
Their sites and fans have worked together and have SO FAR raised over $10,000! Let me add that by sites, I mean not only us here at AlexSkarsgard.Net, not only the ladies at True Blood News at the Nest…I mean the greater majority of Alexander’s and Stephen’s sites, including True Blood sites and many many others! We’ll eventually post a list of everyone we’d like to thank but for now I’d like to hand out a giant Puss och kram to those who have helped and ask that you please continue to assist us in our efforts to raise as much money as possible for this wonderful charity.
The SOS Children’s Village in Brovary sent over a couple of endearing stories to give a little insight into what it is they do.
Thanks to SOS Mothers’ Clubs…A Mother Finds Strength
In Brovary, as in other cities around the world, we work to keep families together as well as to care for children that have nowhere else to turn. For parents who are struggling with addictions, this often involves long-term counseling programs and participating in “Mothers’ Clubs.”
Vika, a 35 year old woman with a four year old son, battled alcohol addiction for numerous years. While visiting friends, Vika became intoxicated and paid little attention to her young son. While wandering around by himself, Vika’s son tragically fell from the sixth floor balcony. Miraculously, the young boy survived, yet Vika still gave him little attention while he was in the hospital. SOS Children’s Villages worked directly with the mother and grandmother to ensure that the boy received the proper care and treatment.
After several months, Vika participated in an SOS Mother’s Club meeting in Brovary devoted to the topic “I am a successful woman.” She had brought along a friend who was also struggling with addiction. As she told of her life struggles during the meeting, it was clear that she had resolved to change her life.
Vika has since attended Mothers’ Club meetings regularly and voluntarily requests counseling sessions and parenting advice. She has found the willpower to fight addiction and has registered with the State Employment Center.
Oksana Finds a New Family
SOS Children’s Villages gives children who have no family that can care for them, a long-term home where they are nurtured and prepared for life as an independent adult.
Oksana, a three year old girl from Brovary, Ukraine, had been abandoned by her mother in a bus station in sub-zero weather. Fortunately, she was rescued by kind people and brought to a children’s hospital.
Oksana’s future SOS Mother, Natasha, met her in the hospital and got to know her before the SOS Village in Brovary was still under construction.
Not everything was perfect in the beginning. Oksana trusted her SOS Mother, but was afraid of noises and strangers. She would not fall asleep without holding Natasha’s hand.
As time went on, Oksana become stronger and more secure. Now, she loves music and adores dancing and singing. She loves to draw and has become very talkative…always the center of attention!
These are just a couple of reasons why we ask for your donations – to help others like Vika get through the rough times and become better parents for their little ones. To help the little ones like Oksana find the home, the love they so desperately need and deserve to grow up and someday have a family of their own.
We know most charities out there are very worthy of your help. We know there’s a lot of bad things going on in the world that require the attention of a great number of wonderful people who, like you, want to make the world a better place. However, we also know what $20 can do to help in the care of a child who requires not only food, shelter, clothing, and schooling but the kind individuals it takes to provide these things. That’s what the SOS Children’s Villages provide.
Please help us help them.
