HBO Tops EMMY Noms…
Fox’s musical comedy hit “Glee” and HBO’s gritty World War II miniseries “The Pacific” led the nominations list Thursday morning for the 62nd Primetime Emmy Awards.
“Glee” picked up a whopping 19 nominations, including best comedy series, with “The Pacific” receiving 24 bids.
In addition, Conan O’Brien received a surprise nomination for his brief tenure hosting NBC’s “The Tonight Show” — while his resurrected replacement Jay Leno was snubbed.
“Glee” and ABC’s fellow critically acclaimed freshman comedy ABC’s “Modern Family” broke into the comedy series category, joining HBO’s “Curb Your Enthusiasm,” NBC’s “The Office” and “30 Rock,” and Showtime’s “Nurse Jackie.”
For outstanding drama series, the final season of ABC’s “Lost” and the first season of CBS’ “The Good Wife” made the list, along with Showtime’s “Dexter,” AMC’s “Breaking Bad” and “Mad Men,” and HBO’s “True Blood.”
In the best actress in a drama category, Julianna Margulies scored a nomination for “The Good Wife,” with Kyra Sedgwick (“The Closer”), Glenn Close (“Damages”), Connie Britton (“Friday Night Lights”), Mariska Hargitay (“Law & Order: Special Victims Unit”) and January Jones (“Mad Men”) also receiving honors.
The nominees for best actor in a comedy are Jim Parsons (“The Big Bang Theory”), Larry David (“Curb Your Enthusiasm”), Matthew Morrison (“Glee”), Tony Shalhoub (“Monk”), Steve Carell (“The Office”) and Alec Baldwin (“30 Rock”).
The nominees for best actress in a comedy are Lea Michele (“Glee”), Julia Louis-Dreyfus (“The New Adventures of Old Christine”), Edie Falco (“Nurse Jackie”), Amy Poehler (“Parks and Recreation”), Tina Fey (“30 Rock”) and Toni Collette (“The United States of Tara”).
The nominees for best reality competition are “The Amazing Race,” “American Idol,” “Dancing With the Stars,” “Project Runway” and “Top Chef.”
In addition to Conan, the nominees for best variety, music or comedy series are “The Colbert Report,” “The Daily Show,” “Real Time with Bill Maher” and “Saturday Night Live.”
The nominees were announced Thursday morning by the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences.

The Emmy Awards will air Aug. 29 on NBC, with Jimmy Fallon hosting from the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles. The ceremony is airing live coast-to-coast for the first time in 30 years, with awards show veteran Don Mischer producing. The Awards typically air in September and were moved up to avoid conflicting with the network’s Sunday evening NFL telecasts.
